Xenonauts 2 is a strategy game developed by Goldhawk Interactive and published by Hooded Horse. Set in 2009, during the Cold War era with the Berlin Wall still standing, the secret organization Xenonauts operates in secret around the world against an increasingly bold alien threat. Playing as the Xenonauts commander, you establish multiple hidden bases worldwide, recruit, train, and command ground forces to fight aliens and their human collaborators, the Cleaners. Combat consists of turn-based tactical battles across a variety of terrains, from cities to wilderness. Every battle is an opportunity to gather intelligence — you can eliminate enemies quickly to reduce losses, or slow down to recover alien biological remains and technology samples for research. The game combines two core systems: a global strategy layer where you manage bases, allocate resources, and advance research, and a tactical layer where you command squads in the field. Different decisions create chain effects, so every campaign plays out differently. The alien species are diverse and each has its own weaknesses, while the Cleaners add variety to mission objectives and maps. The game launched in early access in July 2023 and released fully on April 2, 2026.
