XCOM® 2 is a science-fiction turn-based strategy game developed by Firaxis Games. It launched on February 4, 2016, with the Windows version published by 2K and the macOS and Linux versions handled by Feral Interactive. Continuing the setting of XCOM: Enemy Unknown, it follows an alternate timeline in which the aliens successfully occupied Earth. Humanity appears to live in peace but is forced to submit to the alien-backed ADVENT regime. Players command the rebuilt XCOM resistance from the Avenger, a mobile base converted from an alien ship, coordinating global strikes, gathering public support, and uncovering the aliens' hidden plan. Turn-based tactical battles place squads drawn from five classes—assault, sniper, medic, support, and engineer—on procedurally generated maps. Missions include ambushing patrols, rescuing VIPs, seizing enemy equipment, and escorting survivors to extraction. Concealment, positioning, ability combinations, and resource management all matter. Soldiers who fall or die in battle are permanently lost and cannot be revived. The strategic layer involves building laboratories, workshops, command facilities, and other rooms aboard the Avenger. Scientific research unlocks new weapons, armor, and tactical abilities for confronting an increasingly powerful alien force. The game supports Simplified Chinese interface text and subtitles, alongside Steam achievements, Workshop mods, and cloud saves. Its Metacritic media score is 88. XCOM 2 received a 2016 Strategy Game of the Year nomination and has six DLC expansions, including the major War of the Chosen expansion.
