Welcome to the Game III is a strategy horror game developed by Reflect Studios, an indie studio based in New York. Players take on the role of Simon, a character weighed down by a high-interest loan who is forced to find the pieces of a puzzle across the dark web in a single night to pay off his debt. The game features 52 browsable dark web sites. Players must search for anomalous sites and scan their source code to uncover hidden keys, while racing four other NPC players to collect the pieces. You can trade with NPCs, buying and selling items and services, and you can even spend money to permanently remove an opponent from the game—though opponents can take the same action against you. Several hacking minigames are included, such as counterattacking to earn DOS coins or using firewalls to defend against intrusions, at the risk of missing out on earnings. Players also need to manage their own safety strategy, deciding when to hold their ground, when to hide, and when to flee from pursuers. The game also contains a slot machine gambling program that uses virtual currency. According to the developer, the game simulates the experience of browsing the dark web, and some sites involve content such as illegal drug sales, cults, and hired killers.
