War Thunder is a free-to-play, cross-platform massively multiplayer online military vehicle shooter themed around military equipment from the early 20th century to the present day. It is developed by Hungarian developer Gaijin Games and published by Gaijin Entertainment. The game covers three main categories of equipment, aviation, ground armor, and naval ships, and players can control more than 2,500 vehicles recreated from historical records. The core gameplay has players piloting military vehicles in battles set on maps based on historical campaigns, with three main modes: air battles, ground battles, and naval battles; some modes support combined air-naval or air-ground operations. A typical match pits 16 players against 16. Players earn experience points in battle to unlock higher-tier vehicles and gradually expand the tech tree of their chosen nation. The game offers multiple modes: battle modes provide competitive play at different difficulty levels and rules, while PvE content includes dynamic historical campaigns and single missions. The game is updated regularly with new vehicles, maps, and nations. Players can also create and share custom content through the War Thunder Live community platform, with a chance to earn money through the revenue-sharing program. War Thunder supports Windows, Linux, macOS, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, with cross-platform players sharing the same servers. The minimum quality resolution is 720P, and the full client takes about 75.9 GB of hard drive space. The game itself is free to play and requires no subscription. Vehicles in the game span from World War I to modern equipment, including famous WWII aircraft, Cold War prototype vehicles, and some contemporary main battle equipment. Because the game is set against historical warfare, battles involve the equipment and settings of the major WWII belligerents, and some vehicle liveries and events touch on historically disputed regions, so parents are advised to take note.
