VRChat is a free social VR platform developed and published by VRChat Inc. An early access version launched on February 1, 2017. A VR headset isn't required to play, but the game is deeply optimized for VR headsets, enabling experiences such as full-body avatar tracking and finger tracking. The core of the game is socializing and creating. The platform hosts hundreds of virtual worlds and game modes built by the community with the Unity engine and Udon, VRChat's own scripting language, covering flight simulators, card games, shooters, racing, escape rooms, horror exploration, and casual parties. Players can customize any avatar to join these activities and talk or chat in real time with users around the world via voice or text. VRChat provides creation tools and an SDK, so players can build their own worlds and avatars with Unity and share them on the platform. Group features help players find lasting communities and meet again. The game currently operates as a free title, and the developers say they plan to keep it free long term. Note that because content is user-generated, the game contains unmoderated community-created content that may include adult elements, depictions of violence, or controversial symbols, so players are advised to judge for themselves whether content is appropriate.
