Valheim is an open-world survival and building game developed by the Swedish studio Iron Gate AB and published by Coffee Stain Publishing. It launched on Steam in February 2021 (Windows/macOS/Linux) and was later ported to Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One following player demand. Set in Norse mythology, the game casts you as a slain Viking warrior who earned a place in Valhalla but is exiled to a chaotic frontier called Valheim — a cold wilderness ringed by the edges of the Nine Realms. To survive, you gather resources, build bases, hunt, farm, and cook, gradually taking on the five world bosses whose defeat grants ancient powers. The game supports multiplayer co-op for up to ten players, and its core loop is an open-world cycle of exploring, building, fighting, and defeating bosses. Maps are procedurally generated, and survival elements include a day/night cycle, changing weather, ship building, and land vehicle crafting. The art style is simple, and the atmosphere is somber. Valheim continues to receive updates and remains in a long-term content-update phase; so far there is no record of a mobile or native console release.
