Thronefall is a minimalist blend of tower defense and city building. Players construct and manage a kingdom by day, then lead its forces against enemy attacks at night.
Thronefall is a minimalist strategy game that combines tower defense with city building. During the day, players construct and manage a kingdom; at night, they command its army against waves of enemies. The central challenge is balancing the economy with defense. Walls, barricades, and towers protect the settlement, while houses, bridges, gold mines, harbors, mills, and farms generate coins each morning—provided they survive the night. Barracks, archery ranges, and hero quarters recruit knights, berserkers, crossbowmen, fire archers, and special hero units such as stone golems and mages. Ten maps include varied terrain, weather, and enemy combinations, from the mountains of Nordfels to the forests of Wildbach. Nine unlockable weapons, including a battle axe and blood wand, let the warrior-king fight directly. More than 50 optional perks and mutators add replay variety. The objective is to survive each nighttime assault, because sunrise comes only after every enemy has been defeated. Destruction of the castle center ends the run. Thronefall entered Early Access on August 2, 2023, and launched in full on October 11, 2024. It supports Windows and macOS.
