The Outer Worlds 2 is a first-person sci-fi role-playing game developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Xbox Game Studios. It is the sequel to the 2021 game The Outer Worlds, released on October 29, 2025 for Windows. You play as an Earth Directorate operative tasked with investigating and stopping catastrophic rifts capable of destroying all of humanity. The investigation leads you to Arcadia — the birthplace of jump drive technology. There, the colony is caught in a war between factions: the Protectorate's so-called benevolent rule faces rebellion from a religious order and invasion by corporations, and the various forces fight to control or close the rifts. Every one of your decisions — including which factions to trust and how to develop your character's abilities — shapes the fate of the colony and the galaxy itself. The game uses a first-person perspective and offers character customization and a companion recruitment system. Companions have their own goals and traits, and the way you interact with them can affect whether they grow or meet a death ending. The visuals support 4K resolution and uncapped framerates, with ray tracing, HDR, and 21:9 ultrawide support.
