The Isle is an open-world multiplayer survival game about prehistoric dinosaurs. Developed and published by US studio Afterthought LLC, it entered Early Access for Windows through Steam on December 1, 2015. Its island contains dense forests, plains, mountains, and dark swamps. Players control prehistoric creatures ranging from herbivores such as Dryosaurus and Stegosaurus to carnivores including Tyrannosaurus and Allosaurus. Survival is the central challenge. Players forage, hunt, avoid predators, and grow from juveniles into adults. Mature dinosaurs can nest, raise young, and claim territory. Survival mode uses a full life cycle and erases progress on death, while sandbox mode removes that pressure and allows immediate access to adult creatures. Environmental storytelling places mysterious ruins and abnormal signals across the island, hinting at an experiment known as AE. The wider story is intended to be uncovered collectively by the player community. Steam labels the game as containing blood and violence and unsuitable for younger audiences.
