Stellaris is a science-fiction grand strategy game developed by Paradox Development Studio and published by Paradox Interactive. Beginning on a single planet, players create a custom alien species and form of government before expanding throughout the galaxy. Its major systems combine empire management, diplomacy, science, and warfare. Players balance resources and development, explore procedurally generated star systems and unexpected events, establish trade and alliances or hostile relations with other civilizations, research thousands of technological paths for new ships and capabilities, and organize fleets in contests for galactic power. Narrative events and crisis systems add long-term uncertainty. The full experience can be played solo, while Steam supports online multiplayer. Stellaris first launched on Steam in May 2016 and later reached consoles including PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Dozens of DLC packs have continued to expand its content. Officially supported languages include English, French, German, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish. Simplified Chinese availability depends on the localization included with the game.
