STAR WARS: The Old Republic is a free-to-play MMO developed by Broadsword and published by Electronic Arts. It launched for PC on December 20, 2011. Eight separate class storylines drive the experience. Players choose familiar Star Wars roles such as Jedi, Sith, bounty hunter, or trooper and make choices with consequences across the light and dark sides. Story dialogue is fully voiced and presented cinematically. A flexible combat-style system separates story class from gameplay. Sixteen combat styles allow combinations such as a trooper using a sniper rifle or a Sith Inquisitor wielding two lightsabers. More than 20 planets can be explored, including Hoth, Tatooine, and Alderaan. Multiplayer activities include Flashpoints, Operations, Warzones, Arenas, and Galactic Starfighter. Galactic Strongholds lets players acquire housing on worlds including Tatooine, Nar Shaddaa, and Alderaan. The game is free to begin with an optional subscription. Subscribers can unlock the level cap of 80 and gain access to expansion content including Legacy of the Sith, Onslaught, Knights of the Eternal Throne, and Knights of the Fallen Empire. The Cartel Market sells virtual items for Cartel Coins. The game has operated for more than a decade and continues to receive updates.
