skate. (styled in lowercase with a period) is the latest entry in Electronic Arts' skateboarding series, available on Steam as a free-to-play early access title. It carries on the series' signature features: the Flick-It control system, which uses the direction and force of right-stick flicks to simulate real skateboarding moves for a unique trick experience, and physics-based board feel that gives every jump, flip, and grind realistic physical feedback. The game is set in San Vansterdam, a fictional open-world city where players can freely explore a huge urban space, discover hidden spots, take on challenges in specific areas, and interact with other players online. Beyond on-board tricks, the game supports off-board exploration, letting players reach every corner of the city on foot or by other means. During early access, the developers keep releasing seasonal content updates, including new maps, gear, and events. The game is free to play but includes in-game purchases of virtual items. As a revival of EA's classic skateboarding IP, skate. carries nearly two decades of the series' history since 2002.
