About Sea of Stars: Sunset Edition

Sea of Stars: Sunset Edition is a retro-style turn-based RPG developed by Sabotage, telling the adventure of the two Children of the Solstice, Zale and Valere, who join forces with allies like Garl, Seraï, Resh'an, and B'st to face a mysterious alchemist and an evil creator.

Sea of Stars: Sunset Edition is a retro-style turn-based RPG developed by Sabotage. Players take on the roles of Valere, a moon monk born on the winter solstice, and Zale, a solar blade dancer born on the summer solstice. As children, the two were foretold by the stars to change the world, and they set out on a journey against evil forces, meeting allies along the way such as the warrior chef Garl, the mysterious assassin Seraï, the immortal alchemist Resh'an, and the glass golem B'st. The combat system blends action-timed inputs with turn-based strategy: pressing buttons in time with the attack animation's beat increases damage dealt and reduces damage taken. It also includes multi-character combos, the Boost mechanic, and the Locks system, which lets players pick damage types that counter the element an enemy is charging. Battles flow seamlessly, with no encounter transitions and no grinding. The open world emphasizes grid-free platforming — swimming, climbing, vaulting, and jumping — as the core way to explore. Players can also enjoy leisure activities such as sailing, cooking, fishing, tavern minigames, and the tabletop board game Wheels. The game is available on PC (Steam, GOG), Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One/Xbox Series S/X, and iOS and Android mobile platforms. The free 2024 update Dawn of Equinox added local co-op; the free DLC Throes of the Watchmaker launched in May 2025; and the free 2026 update Sunset Edition added a brand-new opening cinematic. The physical edition is published by iam8bit.
