Red Dead Redemption 2 is a Western-themed open-world action-adventure game developed and published by Rockstar Games. It first launched on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in October 2018, and the PC version arrived on December 6, 2019, including on Steam. Set in 1899, in the final years of the American West, the story follows outlaw Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang as they rob and fight to survive across the vast wilds of the American heartland while hunted by federal agents and the nation's top bounty hunters. As tensions grow within the gang, Arthur faces a hard choice between loyalty to the gang and his own ideals. Core gameplay centers on exploring a meticulously crafted open world, completing main and side missions, and taking part in daily life at the gang's camp. You can hunt, fish, gather supplies, craft equipment, and experience crime and survival on the American frontier at the end of the 19th century. Combat blends third-person action shooting with the Dead Eye slow-motion targeting system. Your actions affect your honor level, which changes how NPCs treat you and steers parts of the story. The game has two main modes. Story mode tells the full story as you play Arthur Morgan and witness the gang's rise and fall. Red Dead Online is the multiplayer experience, letting you ride alone or with a group to make moonshine, fight, and hunt, carving out your own path on the American frontier. The game was highly praised by the industry: Metacritic PC aggregate score 94, IGN 88, PC Gamer 93; roughly 92% positive on Steam; more than 175 Game of the Year awards and over 250 perfect scores; and it won the 2024 Steam Best Soundtrack award.
