About Project Zomboid

Project Zomboid is a hardcore survival role-playing game set in a zombie apocalypse, supporting single-player and multiplayer.

Project Zomboid is an indie survival role-playing game developed and published by The Indie Stone. It officially released on November 8, 2013, and is currently in early access. Set in the post-apocalyptic town of Muldraugh, Kentucky, the game drops players into an open world full of zombies where the goal is simply to stay alive. Core survival mechanics cover hunger, mental state, infection, and injury management — raw firepower isn't the only challenge. Players scavenge supplies, build defenses, grow crops, and fish to survive, and can craft everything from weapons to everyday items. The game features a hardcore role-playing skill system in which skills improve gradually through use, spanning melee, ranged combat, engineering, farming, fishing, and more. The map is large and presented in an isometric view, covering towns, suburbs, forests, and other terrain types. Both single-player and online multiplayer are supported, including co-op and PvP. In multiplayer, players can survive together, divide tasks, or fight one another. The Steam store page lists core tags such as Survival, Zombies, Open World, Multiplayer, Open World Survival Craft, Sandbox, Post-apocalyptic, Building, RPG, and Survival Horror. The Steam page also marks the game as Mature Content, including frequent violence and gore. The game supports mods through Steam Workshop, and players can add their own content or play community-made mods. The early access version has been actively updated since 2013, and the official Build 42 was released in 2026.
