About Outer Wilds

Explore a solar system trapped in an endless time loop and search for answers. Outer Wilds is an open-world adventure game in which you're stuck in a repeating 22-minute loop that resets every time the sun goes supernova.

Outer Wilds is a time-loop exploration adventure game developed by Mobius Digital and published by Annapurna Interactive. You play a rookie astronaut joining a space program called Outer Wilds to explore a solar system trapped in an endless time loop. Roughly every 22 minutes, the sun goes supernova, destroying everything, and time resets. You're free to explore the planets and record what you see and hear in your ship's log. The game has no combat or leveling systems; the core mechanic is gaining knowledge — tracking mysterious signals, deciphering alien writing, and recording ancient relics. Planets contain dangerous locations and natural disasters that shift over time, such as collapsing surfaces and underground cities swallowed by sand. With a range of gadgets, you can probe your surroundings, track signals, decipher text, and even roast marshmallows over a campfire. The more you learn about the universe, the deeper into dangerous areas you can venture, until you finally uncover the truth behind the time loop. The game launched on PC and Xbox in June 2019, came to PlayStation 4 in October 2020, and arrived on Nintendo Switch in 2021.
