Marathon is a PvPvE survival extraction shooter developed by Bungie. As bio-cybernetic Runners, players search the abandoned colony on Tau Ceti IV for valuable supplies, fight hostile security forces and rival players, and try to extract alive.

Marathon is a science-fiction PvPvE survival extraction shooter from Bungie, the studio behind Halo and Destiny. It takes place in the abandoned human colony on Tau Ceti IV, a world of deserted research facilities, rugged terrain, and security outposts. Each region raises the level of danger, leading toward the ultimate challenge aboard the UESC Marathon locked in orbit. Players infiltrate alone or in squads of up to three, gathering valuable loot while contending with UESC security forces, unpredictable environmental hazards, and other players. Successful extraction preserves the haul for equipment upgrades and stronger builds that can be carried into later runs. Available Runner shells include Vandal, Triage, Recon, Thief, Assassin, Destroyer, and Sentinel, each offering distinct abilities and combat styles. The game follows a seasonal structure. Season 2 arrived in June 2026 with Night Marsh, a dark version of Dire Marsh featuring survival-horror mechanics, as well as the Sentinel shell, the Cradle equipment-stat customization system, and faster faction progression. The season also introduced limited-time events including Vault Breaker, an experimental roguelite PvE mode set in the Cryo Archive, and the asymmetric Sponsored Survival mode. Marathon was released in 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam, with cross-platform multiplayer and cross-save support. Its first open-play week ran from June 2 through June 9, 2026.
