Dead by Daylight is a multiplayer asymmetric horror game from Canadian developer Behaviour Interactive (BHVR). Every match pits one Killer against four Survivors: the Killer hunts and sacrifices the Survivors, while the Survivors must work together to repair generators, evade the Killer, and open the escape exits. The game is played from a third-person perspective. Each Killer has unique powers and items, and each Survivor has their own backstory and perks. Maps are generated at random for every match, and Survivors have to repair generators and open the exit gates or escape exits while under constant pursuit, using the environment and their skills to stay alive. The roster includes dozens of playable Killers and Survivors, mixing original characters with crossover content from major horror franchises such as Silent Hill, Stranger Things, Resident Evil, and Halloween. Beyond standard matchmaking, the game offers custom matches, ranked play, and seasonal events. Dead by Daylight originally launched on PC through Steam in June 2016, and later came to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and the iOS and Android mobile platforms. The base game is free to play, with revenue coming mainly from cosmetic DLC such as skins and emotes, plus annual expansion chapters. Because of its fixed killer-versus-survivor setup, the game includes a degree of violence and a horror atmosphere.
