Elden Ring reaches a Nintendo platform for the first time

Bandai Namco and FromSoftware released Elden Ring Tarnished Edition for Nintendo Switch 2 on August 28, 2026. It marks the first time FromSoftware’s open-world action RPG has appeared on a Nintendo platform. Players can enter both the Lands Between and the Realm of Shadow in TV, tabletop, or handheld mode.

Nintendo’s US store lists the digital edition at $79.99. Prices, taxes, available languages, and product formats differ by country, so the local Nintendo eShop remains the final authority. FromSoftware’s Japanese announcement lists a suggested retail price of ¥9,020 including tax in Japan.

What Tarnished Edition includes

This is not only a port of the original release. It is an all-in-one package containing the major expansion and the new Tarnished content.

Content Officially confirmed inclusion
Elden Ring base game Included
Shadow of the Erdtree Full expansion included
New starting classes Heavy Knight and Idus Knight, 2 in total
New armor 4 sets, including equipment for the two new classes
Torrent customization 3 new appearance options

The new content is not permanently exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2. A separate Tarnished Pack brings the new classes, armor, and Torrent appearances to Elden Ring on PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam. The base game is required to use that add-on.

Explore the Lands Between and the Realm of Shadow

The base game lets players cross open fields, underground areas, castles, swamps, and mountains while building a character through weapons, sorceries, incantations, skills, and attributes. The included Shadow of the Erdtree expansion opens the Realm of Shadow and follows the trail of Miquella through new fields, dungeons, enemies, and boss encounters.

Official materials state that Elden Ring has shipped more than 30 million units worldwide and that Shadow of the Erdtree has shipped more than 10 million. These figures are worldwide shipment milestones reported at specific dates; they are not sales figures for the Nintendo Switch 2 edition.

Online-play limits on Nintendo Switch 2

The Nintendo Switch 2 edition supports co-op, competitive play, and asynchronous features such as phantoms, messages, and bloodstains. FromSoftware’s official FAQ confirms several important limits:

  • Online multiplayer supports 1 to 4 players.
  • Cross-platform play is not supported; Nintendo Switch 2 players can connect only with other Nintendo Switch 2 players.
  • Online multiplayer requires a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership.
  • Internet access and a Nintendo Account are required, and some online services may not be available in every country.

Nintendo’s beginner tips explain that a Furlcalling Finger Remedy reveals golden co-op summon signs and allows the host to summon up to two other players. Players can also place their own summon signs and enter another world to help explore, fight bosses, or learn an encounter.

Five official survival tips for new players

Nintendo highlights five practical ideas: summon help when a fight becomes overwhelming; become a cooperator to study bosses and earn Runes; move behind enemies to perform high-damage backstabs; exhaust NPC dialogue to uncover world and quest information; and follow the Guidance of Grace when exploration leaves you unsure of the main route.

Death remains part of the learning process. Review enemy timing, stamina management, equipment load, and escape routes before changing weapons, Spirit Ashes, or tactics. Repeating the same approach without identifying the cause of a loss is rarely the fastest path forward.
